    Corps of Engineers begins post-Sandy comprehensive study of North Atlantic coast

    As directed by Congress with the passage of the Disaster Relief Appropriation Act of 2013, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers scientists and engineers launched a collaborative study today to determine how best to reduce flood and storm damage risks for people and communities along the North Atlantic coast.

    Army Corps Plumb Beach coastal storm risk reduction work to temporarily close section of bike lane in addition to beach and parking lot

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District will be completing the second and final Phase of coastal storm risk reduction work at Plumb Beach in Brooklyn along the Belt Parkway through most of the rest of the calendar year, which will lead to closures of the bike lane as well as of the beach and parking lot.

    Corps of Engineers emphasizes water safety at federal recreation areas Memorial Day weekend, summer months

    Spring is here and with warmer weather more people will be recreating near or in the water this upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend and through the summer months. Now is the time to start thinking about water safety. Each year, an average of 3,880 people drown in the United States. In fact, drowning is the leading cause of injury death for children aged 1 - 4. Yet, it is possible – just by wearing a life jacket or taking other precautions – to reduce drowning deaths.

    New England federal recreation areas to open

    Most recreation areas at the 31 federal flood risk management reservoirs in New England operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will open to the public in mid-to-late May 2013. Some recreation areas in Connecticut will open in late April.
