    Army Corps of Engineers Joins City Agencies and FEMA in Debut of Nation’s First Urban Post-Disaster Housing Prototype in Brooklyn

    Officials from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, recently joined Commissioners Joseph F. Bruno, New York City Office of Emergency Management, Feniosky Peña-Mora, New York City Department of Design and Construction, and officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency in a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Brooklyn celebrating the completion of emergency prototype housing units designed to quickly resettle large numbers of people in urban areas after a major coastal storm or disaster. It is the only system of its kind in the U.S.

    Corps of Engineers in New England, Concord Middle School partner for science, engineering, math education

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District, and the Concord Public School District in Concord, Mass., recently signed a formal “Partnership in Education” agreement to encourage and enhance the study of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines in the Concord Schools and provide a framework to pursue cooperative educational collaboration.

    Army Corps of Engineers begins sand pumping at Rockaway Beach, restoring coastline severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy

    ws working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, began placing nearly 3 million cubic yards of sand onto Rockaway Beach in recent weeks as part of the second of two major sand placement contracts to repair and restore the engineered beach there to reduce coastal storm risks to the community there, which was left even more vulnerable to coastal storms after Hurricane Sandy.
