Army Corps of Engineers Revises and Renews Nationwide Permits

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today revised and renewed nationwide permits (NWPs) necessary for work in streams, wetlands and other waters of the United States under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899. The new NWPs will take effect March 19, 2017, and replace the existing permits, which expire on March 18, 2017.

The Department of the Army, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), today released and is seeking comment on a proposed rule to update and clarify its policies governing the use of USACE reservoir projects for domestic, municipal and industrial water supply pursuant to Section 6 of the Flood Control Act of 1944, 33 U.S.C. § 708 (Section 6), and the Water Supply Act of 1958, 43 U.S.C. § 390b (WSA).

Army Corps resumes oyster restoration in Tred Avon River sanctuary

The Baltimore District resumed the construction of oyster reef in the Tred Avon River Oyster Sanctuary in Talbot County, Dec. 14, 2016. Eight acres of reef will be restored using aged mixed shell in water depths greater than 9 feet mean lower low water.

Army Corps awards contract to complete construction of Absecon Island dune project

PHILADELPHIA (November 23, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District today awarded a contract to Weeks Marine Inc. for $63.3 million to complete the initial construction of the Absecon Island Coastal Storm Damage Reduction project in New Jersey. The total cost of the contract amount could be $76.1 million if options are awarded. The project is a joint effort of the Army Corps’ Philadelphia District and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

New online maps show storm-based flood potential along Potomac, Anacostia rivers

New digital maps allow government leaders, emergency managers, and the public to view potential flood impacts during high-water events along the Potomac and Anacostia rivers throughout the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia and nearby communities. The maps are now live on the National Weather Service’s web site.

Statement Regarding the Dakota Access Pipeline

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Army informed the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Energy Transfer Partners, and Dakota Access, LLC, that it has completed the review that it launched on September 9, 2016. The Army has determined that additional discussion and analysis are warranted in light of the history of the Great Sioux Nation’s dispossessions of lands, the importance of Lake Oahe to the Tribe, our government-to-government relationship, and the statute governing easements through government property.
