  • Corps of Engineers to host webinar on new permit process for work in Maryland

    The Regulatory Branch is hosting a webinar Nov. 9, 2016, from 10 a.m. - noon on its fifth version of the Maryland State Programmatic General Permit (MDSPGP-5), which became effective Oct. 1, 2016, and will expire Sept. 30, 2021. The intent of MDSPGP-5 is to provide a streamlined Department of the Army authorization for certain recurring activities in Maryland formerly covered by the Nationwide Permits program that are similar in nature, have minimal individual and cumulative adverse effects on the aquatic environment, and satisfy other public interest review factors.

  • Army Corps of Engineers waives day use fees at recreation areas on Veterans Day

    WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees for veterans, active and reserve component service members, and their families at the more than 2,800 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide on Veterans Day, November 11.

  • Communities, Corps of Engineers observe anniversaries of Littleville Lake Dam, Knightville Dam in Huntington

    CONCORD, Mass. – The communities of Huntington and Chester, along with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District and several other agencies and groups, observed the 50th anniversary of the construction of the Littleville Lake Dam project and the 75th anniversary of the Knightville Dam project in a ceremony on Oct. 8, 2016 in Huntington, Mass.

  • Corps of Engineers awards contract to resume oyster restoration in Tred Avon River

    The Baltimore District awarded an approximately $1-million contract Sept. 26, 2016, to Blue Forge LLC to construct oyster reefs in the Tred Avon River Oyster Sanctuary in Talbot County. Eight acres of reef are planned for construction using mixed shell with the option for an additional 10 acres. Work will occur between December 2016 and March 2017. The Oyster Advisory Committee recommended Aug. 1, 2016, that the Corps and non-federal sponsor Maryland Department of Natural Resources continue oyster restoration in the Tred Avon River after an initial delay was requested in December 2015 to review restoration progress.

  • Army Corps of Engineers waives fees on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 24

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at its recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 24.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers launches second year of Every Kid in a Park program

    WASHINGTON (September 1, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today it will continue its support of President Obama’s initiative, the Every Kid in a Park pass program, which officially begins its second year today. Launched last year, the initiative gives fourth grade students and their families free access to federal lands and waters as well as some state parks for a full school year.

    A team from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers led a three-day groundwater modeling workshop for Cambodian government officials, representatives from the U.S. Agency for International Development, and local non-governmental organizations from Aug. 9-11.

  • Corps of Engineers to clear Ellicott City waterways

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, will begin clearing two waterways in Ellicott City, Maryland on Friday, August 19 to assist the local government in reducing the risk of imminent flooding to the city.

  • Army Corps of Engineers implements federal process improvements for oyster aquaculture in Chesapeake Bay

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District (Corps) has decided to reinstate, effective today, August 16, 2016, the suspended 2012 Nationwide Permit #48 (NWP #48) with revised regional conditions for new and existing commercial shellfish aquaculture activities in Maryland tidal waters, pursuant to Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 and Section 404 of the Clean Water Act.
