    Nashville teachers develop STEM curriculum through Corps externships

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 9, 2015) – Local high school teachers are using externships with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District to develop a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics class curriculum . It will reflect real world situations a student might encounter in as a science or engineering professional.

  • Students share STEM ambitions with USACE

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District personnel hosted the STEM Essay Contest winners from Wiesbaden and Sembach middle schools Thursday at the Amelia Earhart Center in Wiesbaden, Germany. The first-place winners from the sixth, seventh and eighth grades participated in a day of hands-on activities, presentations, a mock ribbon-cutting ceremony and construction-site scavenger hunt.

  • USACE bolsters European reassurance effort

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District will manage more construction in Eastern and Central Europe this year than it has in the past 40 years combined. Over the next three years, the district will execute up to 145 military construction and facilities sustainment, restoration and modernization projects in Poland, the Baltics and Balkans as part of the $1 billion European Reassurance Initiative to support NATO allies and U.S. partners in the region.

    WIESBADEN, Germany – The remaining military members on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers team sent to Liberia for Operation United Assistance made it back to Germany earlier this month, just as the West African nation was declared Ebola-free. The Europe District contingent assisted with treatment center construction and helped sustain a DOD presence that numbered 2,800 personnel at its peak.

(May 13, 2015) – The forced removal of Cherokee Indians east of the Mississippi River in 1838 to Indian Territory in present-day Oklahoma is described by the Cherokee Nation today as the “trail where they cried.” A rediscovered segment of the Trail of Tears near the East Fork Recreation Area is providing new insight into what they experienced during the journey across Tennessee.

  • Europe District boosts array of partners, programs

    WIESBADEN, Germany – More than ever before, the U.S. and its allies throughout Europe, Africa and Israel called upon Europe District in 2014 for architect, engineering, construction, environmental, and operations and maintenance support.
