    ROTC Cadets hope to build on lessons learned during Europe District summer internship

    When faced with the choice of staying home or the possibility of continuing their education this summer, Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Cadets Abbi Clark (Kansas State University) and Deandre Wright (Morgan State University) both decided to apply to the ROTC Engineer Internship Program sponsored by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This program allows cadets at the to obtain first-hand experience within engineering in the Army. While there are opportunities within the continental United States and outside of the continental United States, Clark and Wright checked the box for an overseas assignment and hoped for the best.

    Craney Island mosquito treatment scheduled for August 21

    Portsmouth, VA— The 757th Airlift Squadron assigned to Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, will conduct an aerial mosquito spray over Craney Island and the Churchland section of Portsmouth overnight Tuesday, 21 Aug. In the event of weather or mechanical delays, the mission will take place on Wednesday, 22 Aug.

  • Swimming Area Reopened at Blue Marsh Lake

    The swimming area at Blue Marsh Lake’s Dry Brooks Day Use Area has been reopened for public use. Water quality test results now indicate that E. coli bacteria levels have returned to a level that meets state standards for swim beaches. The public is reminded that swimming at Blue Marsh Lake is at one’s own risk, and lifeguards are not on duty. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wants you to stay safe.  Don’t become a statistic – and always be prepared for the unexpected!

    Newly released data from June 6, 2024, on oyster reef restoration in the Chesapeake Bay and its tidal tributaries indicates that the Oysters Outcome in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed agreement will be met by the 2025 deadline.

  • Swim Beach Closed at Blue Marsh Lake

    Swimming at the Dry Brooks Day Use Area of Blue Marsh Lake is currently restricted due to high bacteria levels. Water sample results obtained from testing over the weekend indicated high levels of e-coli bacteria.  The swim beach will remain closed until bacteria levels return to a safe level for public use. This restriction applies to designated swim area.  Picnicking, boating, and other activities are not currently restricted. Visitors that choose to enter the water for activities in other areas of the lake are reminded that the water is not tested, and that swimming at Blue Marsh Lake is at one’s own risk. Updates will be provided as conditions change.

    Members of the late Col. Gail S. Halvorsen’s family, Army leaders, project partners and others with direct ties to the Berlin Airlift all gathered for a dedication ceremony that honored his legacy and formally dedicated the recently completed air traffic control tower on the Clay Kaserne portion of U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden in his name.

    Be a Part of the Solution to Raystown Lake Pollution!

    The Friends of Raystown Lake and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) are calling on volunteers to participate in a shoreline cleanup at Raystown Lake during the annual Lake Cleanup Day, scheduled for Saturday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Tatman Run Recreation Area (rain or shine).

    Having removed roughly 3,000 of the estimated 50,000 tons of mangled iron trusswork, rebar, and concrete resting on the bottom of the Patapsco River, the cranes supporting the Francis Scott Key Bridge response still have much work ahead of them.

    Army Corps shares update on Indian River Inlet repairs

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District awarded a contract to Agate Construction Co., Inc. of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. for $5.3 million to repair a portion of bulkhead and to sand-tighten a portion of the south jetty at Indian River Inlet in Sussex County, DE. Work is anticipated to begin in Spring 2024.
