    Virtual public meetings set for Miami-Dade Back Bay study

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Miami-Dade County, its non-federal sponsor, will host a pair of online public meetings this month on the Miami-Dade Back Bay Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study. The public is invited to learn more about the study and its findings at the identical virtual sessions, scheduled for 5-7 p.m. June 9 and 1-3 p.m. June 11. USACE staff will be available to answer questions.

    USACE announces Gathright Dam pulse-release dates for 2020

    COVINGTON, Va. – Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will perform six pulse releases from Gathright Dam and Lake Moomaw in the Alleghany Highlands of Virginia between June and October.

    New York and New Jersey Harbor Anchorages Study takes crucial step

    A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers study aimed at improving navigation and generating transportation-cost savings for deep-draft ships using New York and New Jersey Harbor terminals reached a key milestone Thursday. Lt. Gen. Todd Semonite, chief of engineers and USACE commanding general, signed a Chief’s Report, recommending the New York and New Jersey Harbor Anchorages Study’s findings for authorization by Congress.

    CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the city of Chesapeake will host a public meeting Thursday on the Deep Creek Bridge Replacement Project. It's scheduled for 5-7 p.m. at Deep Creek Middle School.

    SOUTH MILLS, N.C. – Due to required maintenance, the Dismal Swamp Canal on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway between North Carolina and Virginia has been temporarily shut off to vessel traffic.

Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Cottrell Contracting Corp. commenced maintenance dredging Sunday in the 7.6-mile Dancing Point-Swann Point channel.

  • The North Landing Bridge, which spans the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway on the border of Chesapeake, Virginia and Virginia Beach, Virginia, handles approximately 11,000 vehicles per day under normal conditions. The bridge was damaged by two separate barge strikes, the first on March 1, 2016, the second on June 4, 2016.

    North Landing Bridge closed to vehicle traffic for repairs

    Following emergency repairs this week, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Norfolk District officials said North Landing Bridge should be reopen to vehicle traffic before noon Thursday.
