    NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials have canceled Wednesday’s scheduled pulse release at Gathright Dam in the Alleghany Highlands of Virginia near Covington.

    North Landing Bridge replacement project clears major hurdle

    NORFOLK, Va. – A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project aimed at replacing North Landing Bridge took a crucial step forward this week. Lt. Gen. Todd Semonite, chief of engineers and USACE commanding general, signed a Chief’s Report on Tuesday, recommending the North Landing Bridge Replacement Study’s findings for authorization by Congress.

    A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers study aimed at improving navigation and generating transportation-cost savings for deep-draft ships using New York and New Jersey Harbor terminals reached a key milestone Thursday. The deployment could last up to six months.

At the North Atlantic Division in Brooklyn, N.Y., engineers focus on five main environmental areas: Restoring degraded ecosystems, constructing sustainable facilities, managing natural resources and waterways and cleaning up contaminated sites from formerly used defense sites.

    Europe District claims 2012 division safety award

    WIESBADEN, Germany – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District boasted the top safety record, practices and procedures in all of North Atlantic Division last year. The district was recognized for its “creative, effective and tireless efforts” to save lives and families within a broad and varied area of responsibility, according to a citation received in the fiscal year 2012 USACE Chief of Engineers Awards for Safe Performance.
