    World War II-era warehouse at Richmond depot to get major overhaul

    NORFOLK, Va. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Defense Logistics Agency are teaming up on a project to restore a Defense Supply Center Richmond warehouse built in 1942.

    Bellwood Manor House set for $3.28M renovation

    NORFOLK, Va. – The historic Bellwood Manor House at Defense Supply Center Richmond is getting a face-lift. Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $3.28 million contract to Facility Support Services for renovation of the house, which was built between 1790 and 1804 and is listed as a national and state landmark.

    New York and New Jersey Harbor Anchorages Study takes crucial step

    A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers study aimed at improving navigation and generating transportation-cost savings for deep-draft ships using New York and New Jersey Harbor terminals reached a key milestone Thursday. Lt. Gen. Todd Semonite, chief of engineers and USACE commanding general, signed a Chief’s Report, recommending the New York and New Jersey Harbor Anchorages Study’s findings for authorization by Congress.

    U.S. and international agencies carrying out Operation United Assistance have wrapped up work on the final two of 10 Ebola treatment units in Liberia, a top engineer with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) said Jan. 23. Europe District’s Forward Engineer Support Team-Advanced played a part by providing technical expertise.

    WIESBADEN, Germany – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has joined the fight against Ebola in West Africa. Europe District’s Forward Engineer Support Team-Advanced departed Oct. 21 for Monrovia, Liberia, to take part in Operation United Assistance, an Africa Command mission to provide logistics, training and engineering support to U.S. Agency for International Development-led efforts at containing the virus outbreak in the region. The deployment could last up to six months.

    Europe District claims 2012 division safety award

    WIESBADEN, Germany – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District boasted the top safety record, practices and procedures in all of North Atlantic Division last year. The district was recognized for its “creative, effective and tireless efforts” to save lives and families within a broad and varied area of responsibility, according to a citation received in the fiscal year 2012 USACE Chief of Engineers Awards for Safe Performance.
