    USACE campground sports new Splash Pad for fun and excitement

    JAMESTOWN, KY. (July 28, 2020) The word is out. One of the best way to beat the heat in the Lake Cumberland summer sun is to splash the day away in the refreshing sprinkles of a splash pad.

    In the past couple of years, “hammocking” has become a growing trend across the country and now people wishing to “hammock” can do so in a designated area at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, Saylorville Lake project. Typically, use of a hammock on Corps property is strictly prohibited but thanks to the installation of hammock poles, people can now enjoy the activity without breaking rules or damaging trees.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 14, 2020) – As part of a phased approach for reopening facilities as part of its COVID-19 reopening plan, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is opening its corps-managed campgrounds within the Cumberland River Basin in Tennessee June 1, 2020.

    LANCASTER, Tenn. (May 8, 2020) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces that Center Hill Recreation Area, located adjacent to Center Hill Dam, is once again opening for public use beginning Friday, May 8, 2020.  Center Hill Recreation Area has been closed since 2008 as a result of construction activities related to the Center Hill Dam Rehabilitation Project.

To further protect against the spread of the COVID-19 virus, all U.S. Army Corps of Engineers managed campgrounds will remain closed or immediately begin an orderly shutdown.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District places concrete for the first monolith on the Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project Oct. 17, 2019 on the Tennessee River in Chattanooga, Tennessee. At the Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project, aa Tennessee Valley Authority project, the Nashville District is currently executing the lock chamber contract for the new 110-foot by 600-foot navigation lock, which includes 285,000 cubic yards of reinforced concrete.     CAMDEN COUNTY, N.C. -- The Dismal Swamp Canal offers boaters a tranquil and serene trip down the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. On average, more than 700 boaters utilize the canal between the months of September and December.

    Officials at the Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have delayed reopening the Dismal Swamp Canal until late October. “Recent weather events have delayed progress, and the latest condition survey of Turners Cut showed that additional dredging was needed,” said Keith Lockwood, Norfolk District Operations Branch chief.
