    On November 2, 2017, Col. Jason Kelly, along with several key members of the Norfolk District, met with stakeholders, partners, and local citizens concerning flood control, low flow augmentation, recreation, and hydropower. Nestled in the hills of Covington, Virginia stakeholders were taken on a tour of Gathright Dam, which was immediately followed by an in-depth discussion on Gathright Dam. Several of the key speakers included: Col. Jason Kelly, Raymond Dridge, Matthew McKeehan, Anthony Lockridge, Alicia Farrow, Robin Williams, and Owen Reece. Also contributing to the discussion were representatives from the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) and Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). The pulse will gradually increase and peak at 3,500 cubic feet per second by 9 a.m. The maximum surge will last two hours, begin to gradually decrease at 11 a.m., and return to 240 cfs by 1:30 p.m.

The Norfolk District, in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, determined that recent rainfall eliminated the need for the second planned pulse release of the year.
