    Philly District completes dredging and marsh restoration project near Stone Harbor, NJ

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and its contractor Barnegat Bay Dredging Company recently completed a dredging and marsh restoration project near Stone Harbor, N.J. Work involved dredging sediment from the channel of the New Jersey Intracoastal Waterway and beneficially using the material to create habitat on marshland owned by the New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife.

    Anacostia Watershed Restoration project plan in Prince George’s County gets green light from Chief of Engineers

    Lt. Gen. Todd T. Semonite, chief of engineers and commanding general of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has signed the Chief’s Report for the Anacostia Watershed Restoration study in Prince George’s County that recommends restoring 7 miles of instream habitat, opening 4 miles for fish passage and connecting 14 miles of stream to previously restored stream reaches.

    New York District Completes Moriches Dredging

    NEW YORK –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, has completed contracted emergency dredging of an interim 200-foot-wide deep-water passage of ten feet through the highly dynamic Moriches Inlet. This out-of-cycle emergency work was done to remove the hazardous sand shoals that were closing the inlet and preventing U.S. Coast Guard Search and Rescue vessels from using the inlet to respond to lifesaving missions within Moriches Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, following a series of four unusual Nor’easter storms in March of 2018.

    Baltimore District crews dredging roughly 2 million cubic yards of material from six harbor channels

    Crews will begin removing approximately 2 million cubic yards of material today from shipping channels leading to the Port of Baltimore as part of a contract managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District.

    STURGIS vessel moved to Brownsville for final shipbreaking and recycling

    GALVESTON, Texas – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ STURGIS vessel left this morning for the Port of Brownsville for her final journey. In two to three days, she will arrive at the International Shipbreaking Limited facility where she will be dismantled for recycling. The vessel is being towed from Galveston where it has undergone radiological decommissioning that included the safe removal of all components of the deactivated nuclear reactor and all associated radioactive waste that was formerly onboard the STURGIS.

    Philly District to close St. Georges Bridge for repair work

    PHILADELPHIA, PA. (August 10, 2018) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced the St. Georges Bridge will be closed to all traffic from Monday, Sept. 10, 2018 through January of 2019. The Army Corps and its contractor will be completing repair work of steel beams necessitating the closure.
