    USACE emerging construction mission in Norway supports regional security, interoperability

    Construction is getting underway later this year to upgrade perimeter fencing here as part of a growing military construction program in Norway being managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The work is the first of five already planned European Deterrence Initiative projects for the base. In addition to facilitating interoperability, training and international exercises, the European Deterrence Initiative projects aim to enhance the readiness of Rygge Air Station to support the capability of U.S. forces, Norwegian forces, NATO Allies, and partners to rapidly respond to any situation in the region should the need arise.

    Romanian and U.S. officials in Campia Turzii celebrate new facilities at Air Base 71, part of more than $100 million in U.S. investments in the Romanian base

    CAMPIA TURZII, Romania – Romanian and U.S. officials joined together at Air Base 71 today to celebrate the completion of three new facilities intended to increase the capacity of the Romanian Air Force base here to host operations in support of regional security. The three projects are part of a larger, more than $100 million construction program at the base funded through the United States’ European Deterrence Initiative.

    USACE supports U.S. Air Force on projects throughout Europe

    A large part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District’s military construction, or MILCON, program focuses on U.S. Army facilities around Europe - But the Army also supports the U.S. Air Forces in Europe with a wide-ranging design and construction program as well.

  • European Reassurance Initiative projects on track in Estonia, throughout Europe

    Twenty-two European Reassurance Initiative infrastructure and construction projects managed by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District at Tapa are nearly complete, and will support an influx of U.S. and NATO forces as heel-to-toe rotations begin in early 2017. The projects are a subset of a $500 million ERI Program the district oversees for U.S. Army and Air Force military construction, and facilities, sustainment, restoration and modernization in Bulgaria, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania, with future work planned in Hungary, Luxembourg, Norway and Slovakia. Europe District has approximately 260 projects in design or construction to make improvements to airfields, military quarters, operations centers, training ranges and support facilities throughout Europe.

    The recently completed Ankara Administrative Facility, a $1.3 million, 15,700-square-foot building, houses the legal, traffic management and post offices serving Incirlik Air Base personnel and their dependents. The building officially opened March 26, 2015 and is the first LEED-certified U.S. government facility in Turkey.

    Europe realignment, consolidation among key themes at annual USACE workshop

    WIESBADEN, Germany – Top engineers have begun outlining the steps they’ll take in two major programs to bolster allies while streamlining U.S. forces and assets in Europe over the next several years. Discussions about the European Reassurance Initiative and European Infrastructure Consolidation came during the 2015 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District Partner Workshop.

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District and its partners have embarked on the next phase of an “Evolution” at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany. Leaders from the 52nd Fighter Wing, USACE and local community took part in a groundbreaking ceremony Feb. 21 for the installation’s new $25 million commissary.
