    Students share STEM ambitions with USACE

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District personnel hosted the STEM Essay Contest winners from Wiesbaden and Sembach middle schools Thursday at the Amelia Earhart Center in Wiesbaden, Germany. The first-place winners from the sixth, seventh and eighth grades participated in a day of hands-on activities, presentations, a mock ribbon-cutting ceremony and construction-site scavenger hunt.

    WIESBADEN, Germany – A group of Wiesbaden Middle School students got a glimpse of engineer life recently while engaging in some hands-on demonstrations during “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” at the Amelia Earhart Center. Fifty children participated in the visit, including roughly 20 with a parent employed by the district.

    Engineering the future, in 500 words or less

    WIESBADEN, Germany -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District challenged Wiesbaden Middle School students to explain, in 500 words or less, why they are interested in pursuing science, technology, engineering and math careers. The winners -- Pete Greig, Chuck Oliver and Isabella Lee -- representing the sixth, seventh and eighth grades, respectively, were selected from a pool of 80 contest entrants by Department of Defense Dependents Schools officials.
