    Albania telemedicine network fully connected

    TIRANA, Albania – Albania’s telemedicine network is completely integrated and functional following a large-scale effort by U.S. and Albanian partners to overhaul a dozen facilities around this small country in southeastern Europe. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District, in partnership with U.S. Embassy Tirana’s Office of Defense Cooperation and U.S. Agency for International Development, managed renovation of 12 telemedicine centers over five years in a $1.9 million venture funded through EUCOM’s humanitarian-assistance program.

    WIESBADEN, Germany – As the fiscal calendar hits 2016, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District is looking back at another strong year supporting its many strategic partners in two theaters. With more than $668 million in construction placement and over 6.5 million employee hours on project sites, the district had one of the three largest military construction programs in all of USACE.

    Europe District boosts array of partners, programs

    WIESBADEN, Germany – More than ever before, the U.S. and its allies throughout Europe, Africa and Israel called upon Europe District in 2014 for architect, engineering, construction, environmental, and operations and maintenance support. USACE had record-high quality construction placement in excess of $610 million across the district in all programs ranging from Belgium to Israel, the Baltics to the Balkans, Eastern Europe to Africa, and at remote sites on both continents and Eurasia.

    US delivers upgraded school in Kosovo

    More than 900 students and 50 faculty members in a formerly strife-torn region of Kosovo returned to a fully revamped school this fall, thanks to a collaborative humanitarian-assistance project by U.S. partner agencies. Representatives from U.S. Embassy Pristina, the Office of Defense Cooperation, U.S. European Command and Kosovo’s Ministry of Education joined city leaders Sept. 9 in Mitrovica for the reopening of Musa Hoti Primary School.

The EUCOM funded and USACE managed humanitarian assistance project included a 1,580-square-meter sports gymnasium with locker room facilities. The gym was originally started by the municipality, but never completed due to lack of funding. The project also included the installation of indoor bathroom facilities and general renovations to the existing building (new flooring, exterior doors and windows, entry canopy and paint). The project was completed in the town of Pranjani as a small token of thanks. During World War II more than 500 airmen were shot down over occupied Serbia and rescued by local Serbians who ultimately assisted in the largest evacuation of troops behind enemy lines in history. The people of Pranjani were instrumental in the success of the Halyard Mission rescue, building an airstrip to enable the evacuation. Through partnership and the successful completion of this project the people of the U.S. and Serbia continue to cultivate their friendship.

    US honors Serbian friendship

    PRANJANI, Serbia --The cheers of more than 520 World War II Allied airmen being evacuated from Pranjani is a 68-year-old memory for the residents of this rural, farming village.
