    Surveying the Future

    Survey technicians, cartographic technicians and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) pilots are the boots on the ground for the New York District when it comes to collecting the critical information required by engineers, project planners, and real estate specialists. The Survey Section of the New York District resides within the Operations Support Branch of Operations Division. The teams workload comes from every office in the District when there’s a need for geospatial mapping support. On any given day survey teams are in the field collecting hydrographic and topographic maps to support the delivery of the district’s civil works, military and interagency and international support missions.

    Space Force Marks 25 Years of GPS

    The Global Positioning System, better known as GPS, marks its 25th year of operation Apr. 27, 2020. On this date in 1995, the system reached full operational capability, meaning the system met all performance requirements. U.S. Air Force Space Command formally announced the milestone three months later.

    STEM grads critical to U.S. military mission

    WASHINGTON (Army News Service, Aug. 14, 2013) -- The Army and America both need more scientists, engineers, mathematicians and technology specialists, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is now doing something about that, said its commander. As part of an effort to turn young students on to science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, career choices, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, or USACE, in May signed an agreement to partner with the Department of Defense Education Activity, known as DODEA, schools to bring engineering-related experiences to the classroom, said Lt.
