    New York District hosts a Joint Armed Forces ribbon cutting ceremony at the Times Square Recruiting Center

    On November 10th, 2017 a contingent of joint armed forces recruiting commands joined the Army Corps’ New York District and the North Atlantic Division for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the U.S. Armed Forces Recruiting Center at Times Square. The ribbon was cut by a joint service group of commanders that included Major General Garrett Harencak, Commander, Air Force Recruiting Service, Lieutenant Colonel Judd Floris, Commander, NYC Army Recruiting Battalion, Colonel Ivan Monclova, Commander, 1st Marine Corp District, Colonel Robert Hailey, Acting Deputy Commander, North Atlantic Division, and Commander Christian Gaskill, Commander, Navy Recruiting District New York.

    Small boat with a big job steams on during parade of ships

    NEW YORK-The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) drift collection vessel the DCV GELBERMAN helped kick off what was an epic scene along the Hudson River earlier this week. As scores of people stood on Engeldrum Bluff at Fort Hamilton the DCV GELBERMAN carried the American flag during with pride, a USACE New York District tradition. USACE crews on board the DCV GELBERMAN work day in and day out to keep the Hudson River and other essential federal navigation channels open and vacant of dangers. “The crew takes pride in keeping the navigation channel free and clear from hazards.” Said Colonel David A. Caldwell, Commander, USACE, New York District.

    DCV DRIFTMASTER leads the way proudly sporting Old Glory. The DCV DRIFTMASTER was followed by the guided missile destroyers USS Farragut (DDG99) homeported in Mayport, Florida, the USS Bainbridge (DDG96) from Norfolk, Virginia, and the amphibious assault carrier USS Bataan (LHD 5) also from Norfolk. A number of other ships participated in the parade, as well as a few Canadian warships.

    USACE Drift Collection Vessel Carries on Proud Tradition of Leading Parade of Ships during Fleet Week 2016

    NEW YORK-The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Drift Collection Vessel DCV DRIFTMASTER isn’t the largest vessel compared to U.S. Navy combatants, but its mission is just as important as any warship that participated in Fleet Week’s 2016 Parade of Ships. The flotilla arriving in the New York Harbor May 25 was able to electrify onlookers along the shores of Brooklyn, Staten Island and along the promenade of the Hudson River in Manhattan due to the hard work of DCV DRIFTMASTER.

Each year students from their respective schools get together to show off their scientific percipience, learn more about their environment and celebrate Arbor Day and Earth Month.
