NEW YORK — Col. Kent D. Savre, Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers North Atlantic Division, will be promoted to the rank of brigadier general in a March 15 promotion ceremony in Washington, D.C.
The ceremony will take place in the headquarters building of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at 1:30 p.m.
Savre’s distinguished career includes leading the Army Corps' response to Hurricane Sandy, which included unwatering 475 million gallons of salt water from the New York City metro area and providing emergency temporary power to critical public infrastructure affected by the storm. Before becoming the Commander of the North Atlantic Division, Savre served as Director of the Office of the Chief of Engineers in the Pentagon. Before that he served as the United States Forces-Iraq Theater Engineer Brigade commander in Iraq; Commander of the 36th Engineer Brigade at Fort Hood, TX; Director of the Counter Explosive Hazards Center at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; Commander of the 864th Engineer Battalion supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom; and Assistant Corps Engineer for I Corps at Fort Lewis, Wash.
Savre was commissioned as an engineer officer in 1985 upon graduation from Officer Candidate School. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, a Master’s degree in Construction Management from Arizona State University and a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the Army War College. He is a graduate of the Engineer Officer basic and advanced courses, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and U.S. Army War College.
