NEW YORK – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) New York District, and partner agencies requests public input regarding the NY & NJ Harbors and Tributaries Study.
USACE New York District, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), and the City of New York (NYC) will host seven (8) public meetings for the New York and New Jersey Harbor & Tributaries Study (NYNJHATS).
Historical storms have severely impacted the New York New Jersey Harbor region. In response to these storms, USACE is investigating measures to manage future flood risk in ways that support the long-term resilience and sustainability of the coastal ecosystem and surrounding communities, and reduce the economic costs and risks associated with flood and storm events. In support of this goal, USACE completed the North Atlantic Coast Comprehensive Study (NACCS), which identified nine high risk areas on the Atlantic Coast for further analysis based on preliminary findings. The New York New Jersey Harbor and Tributaries Region was identified as one of the nine areas of high risk, or focus areas, that warrants an in-depth investigation into potential coastal storm risk management measures.
USACE, the States of New York and New Jersey, and the City of New York welcome your attendance at public meetings. Prior to these public meetings, a webinar summarizing the report will be available on the project website. Meeting dates, times and locations are as follows:
• Tuesday, March 12th, 2019, 5-7pm. Location: Westchester County Center, 198 Central Avenue, White Plains, NY 10606. The session is in the Little Theater. Site can be accessed by bus. Parking: paid lots and street parking are available.
• Tuesday, March 19th, 2019, 5-7pm. Location: Snug Harbor Cultural Center, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, NY 10301. The session is in the Historic Music Hall. • Wednesday, March 27th, 5-7pm. Location: Middletown Arts Center, 36 Church St., Middletown, NJ 07748. The session is in the auditorium. Site is adjacent to Middletown Train Station (North Jersey Coast Line). Parking is available in the train station lot.
• Wednesday, April 3rd, 5-7pm. Location: Hudson Valley Community Center, 110 Grand Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. The session is in the main auditorium on the first floor. Parking available on-site.
• Tuesday, April 9th, 5-7pm. Location: Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House, 1 Bowling Green, New York, NY 10004. Session is in the Auditorium on the lower level. Subway: 4/5 to Bowling Green; 1 to Rector Street or South Ferry; J/Z to Broad Street; 2/3 to Wall Street; R to Whitehall Street. Bus: M5, M15, M20. Parking garages in the vicinity.
• Thursday, April 11th, 5-7pm. Location: Meadowlands Environment Center, 2 DeKorte Park Plaza, Lyndhurst, NJ 07071. The session is in the auditorium on the first floor. Park in the first lot on the right, behind the guard booth; Meadowlands Environment Center is the first building on the left.
• April 17th, 5-7pm. Location: Hostos Community College, D Building/Savoy Manor Building, 120 East 149th St, 2nd Floor, Bronx, NY 10451. The session is in the Savoy Room, on the second floor. The building can be accessed by 2/4/5 subway trains to 149 St-Grand Concourse station or MTA bus. Parking: paid lots and street parking are available.
• An additional public meeting is in the process of being finalized, and will be announced shortly.
