Westhampton Beach Interim Project Complete
A mixture of sand and water pumping ashore at Westhampton Beach, New York, November 21, 2014, repairing significant erosion caused by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. The Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, placed nearly 1 million cubic yards of sand for the Westhampton Beach Interim Project providing coastal storm risk reduction for nearly 4 miles of shoreline from Westhampton Beach to Cupsogue Beach County Park on Long Island’s south shore. Work included berm and dune restoration, tapering an existing groin, and constructing a new groin. The project was completed late 2014.
