Westhampton Beach Interim Project Complete
A mixture of sand and water pumping onshore at Westhampton Beach, New York, November 21, 2014. A dredge (background) collects sand from an approved offshore borrow site and transports it to land via large underwater pipes. The Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, placed nearly 1 million cubic yards of sand for the Westhampton Beach Interim Project providing coastal storm risk reduction for nearly 4 miles of shoreline from Westhampton Beach to Cupsogue Beach County Park on Long Island’s south shore. Work included berm and dune restoration, tapering an existing groin, and constructing a new groin. The project was completed late 2014.
