VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Contractors work around the clock at the Oceanfront in Virginia Beach from 15th-70th streets Jan. 4, 2013. The work is the first renourishment since the Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed the Virginia Beach Hurricane Protection and Beach Renourishment Project in 2001. The original $143-million storm protection project included spanning the original boardwalk, adding pump stations, seawall improvements and sand replenishment.
