    Innovative Structure Provides Uninterrupted Learning for West Point Cadets

    Over the past few months, visitors to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York may have noticed construction on a large, white domed structure that sits behind the campus baseball field, next to the library. This 20,000-square-foot temporary facility, known as the General Instruction Building Swing Space, will provide professors and cadets with office and study space while surrounding buildings are being renovated.

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers working on Bradley Barracks Upgrades to Modernize Living Quarters for Cadets at West Point

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, continues to make excellent progress during its $113 million renovation of Bradley Barracks at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, an hour north of New York City. The barracks, housing 900+ Cadets, is expected to be complete in spring 2022.

    Kansas City District delivers $740 million program for the Heartland

    As the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District wrapped up final contract awards for fiscal year 2020, the team wants to share a summary of a few major accomplishments and how they tie into the district mission and benefit the Heartland region. The district awarded 1575 contracts worth $740.1 million in fiscal year 2020 – ending September 30.

    The Omaha District awarded an $8.5 million Optimized Remediation Contract in July that focuses on a large, joint environmental clean-up effort at six Air Force bases across four states in the Northwest also referred to as the Front Range group.

    Trust, commitment and partnerships underpin FUDS foundation

    More than 10,000 former Department of Defense properties within the U.S and its territories have been identified as potentially posing some degree of risk to humans or the environment. The sites range in size from as small as a football field to an area as large as New York City. Fortunately, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District and its partner agencies are committed to discovering and removing hazardous remnants of past military activities before anyone else.

    The new $59.5 million hangar currently under construction at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, N.C., will support the new KC-46A Pegasus, a mid-air refueling tanker set to arrive at the installation in the summer of 2020.

    Work continues on a new $59.5 million state-of-the-art maintenance hangar at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, in Goldsboro, North Carolina. The facility, under construction by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, will support the new KC-46A Pegasus, a mid-air refueling tanker set to arrive at the installation in the summer of 2020.

    European Reassurance Initiative projects on track in Estonia, throughout Europe

    Twenty-two European Reassurance Initiative infrastructure and construction projects managed by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District at Tapa are nearly complete, and will support an influx of U.S. and NATO forces as heel-to-toe rotations begin in early 2017. The projects are a subset of a $500 million ERI Program the district oversees for U.S. Army and Air Force military construction, and facilities, sustainment, restoration and modernization in Bulgaria, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania, with future work planned in Hungary, Luxembourg, Norway and Slovakia. Europe District has approximately 260 projects in design or construction to make improvements to airfields, military quarters, operations centers, training ranges and support facilities throughout Europe.

    The Pathways Program has three sections: Internship Program for current students; the Recent Graduates Program for people who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs (2 years from the date the graduate completed an academic course of study); and the reinvigorated Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program for people who obtained an advanced degree (e.g., graduate or professional degree) within the preceding two years. These programs, collectively the Pathways Programs, are streamlined developmental programs tailored to promote employment opportunities for students and recent graduates in the Federal workforce.

    A line of trucks carrying portable generators awaits installation at Naval Support Facility Deveselu, Romania. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 249th Engineer Battalion transported the generators from Fort Belvoir, Virginia.     WIESBADEN, Germany — The Gen. John Shalikashvili Mission Command Center will be the new home for most of the staff of U.S Army Europe and is located at the Gen. Lucas D. Clay Kaserne, U.S. Army Airfield in Wiesbaden, Germany. The quality, sustainable, state-of-the-art facility was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District in 22 months. The building, named during a June 14, 2012 ceremony is a memorial to Gen. John Shalikashvili who was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1936 and was the first foreign-born American Soldier to be appointed as a Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

    USACE earns first LEED® certification for US facility in Germany

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District announced June 26, 2012 that it has been awarded the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver certification of a U.S. facility in Germany. LEED, established by the U.S. Green Building Council, is an internationally recognized program for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.
