NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has scheduled aerial mosquito treatment during a timeframe of 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31 over the federal property on Craney Island.

Eastern Aviation LLC – the district’s contractor – will spray granular larvicide to target developing mosquito larvae in the area. Targeting developing larvae, the treatment will be sprayed by a dust-cropper-style aircraft. If weather conditions prevent spraying on May 31, the makeup date will be Wednesday, June 1. Beekeepers in affected areas do not need to keep bees covered during spraying operations, as the chemical used does not affect bees. The Portsmouth Mosquito Hotline provides continuous updates on all aerial mosquito spraying in the area and can be reached at 757-393-8666.
