The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District updated the 2015 Francis E. Walter Dam recreation plan.
The Corps updated the plan, which states whitewater and fisheries releases will be scheduled if enough water storage is accumulated in the reservoir. Precipitation throughout the early part of the summer has enabled the Army Corps to add the first five increments of the plan, which includes 4 additional whitewater releases and fisheries enhancement water releases from July 25-Sept 11. The additional increments include:
1) Whitewater event on Aug. 29 (650 cubic feet per second plus inflow up to 850) and increase fisheries enhancement releases to 100 cubic feet per second for the period of July 25-July 31. (Fisheries enhancement releases will be the augmentation amount plus inflow up to a maximum of 300 cubic feet per second).
2) Whitewater event on Aug. 30 (650 cubic feet per second plus inflow up to 850) and increase fisheries enhancement releases to 100 cubic feet per second for the period of Aug. 1-7.
3) Whitewater event on Sept. 5 (650 cubic feet per second plus inflow up to 850) and increase fisheries enhancement releases to 100 cubic feet per second for the period of Aug. 8-14.
4) Whitewater event on Sept. 6 (650 cubic feet per second plus inflow up to 850) and increase fisheries enhancement releases to 100 cubic feet per second for the period of Aug. 15-21.
5) Increase fisheries enhancement releases to 100 cubic feet per second for the period of Aug. 22-Sept 11.
The Corps will announce at a later date if it is able to hold additional whitewater and fisheries releases.
