The Fire Island to Montauk Point (FIMP) Project will reduce flood risk for Long Islanders along vulnerable areas of 83 miles of coastline in Suffolk County from Fire Island Inlet to Montauk Point. This comprehensive, $1.7 billion project includes a variety of features to reduce coastal flood risks.

The report outlines a ‘Tentatively Selected Plan’ framework, which includes three storm surge barriers, two cross-bay barriers, and the elevation of more than 18,000 structures to reduce the risk of flood damages associated with storm surge. It’s important to note that the plan is subject to change. It has not yet been approved by higher authorities, including Congress, and has not been funded for implementation at the federal or state level.   &lt;br/&gt;

      <description>The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Philadelphia District ushered in new leadership as Lt. Col. Ramon Brigantti assumed command of the organization from Lt. Col. David Park during a July 9th ceremony in the Wanamaker Building's Crystal Tea Room. Brigantti became the 61st commander in the District's 155 year history.
