    Lightning safety around water

    All too often in the event of a lightning occurrence some find themselves not knowing what to do or where to seek shelter. Most people have a tendency to continue their outdoor activities or dash to the wrong type of shelter during a lightning occurrence. To minimize permanent injury or death related to lighting strikes consider the Do’s and Don’ts:
  • DCV DRIFTMASTER leads the way proudly sporting Old Glory. The DCV DRIFTMASTER was followed by the guided missile destroyers USS Farragut (DDG99) homeported in Mayport, Florida, the USS Bainbridge (DDG96) from Norfolk, Virginia, and the amphibious assault carrier USS Bataan (LHD 5) also from Norfolk. A number of other ships participated in the parade, as well as a few Canadian warships.

    USACE Drift Collection Vessel Carries on Proud Tradition of Leading Parade of Ships during Fleet Week 2016

    NEW YORK-The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Drift Collection Vessel DCV DRIFTMASTER isn’t the largest vessel compared to U.S. Navy combatants, but its mission is just as important as any warship that participated in Fleet Week’s 2016 Parade of Ships. The flotilla arriving in the New York Harbor May 25 was able to electrify onlookers along the shores of Brooklyn, Staten Island and along the promenade of the Hudson River in Manhattan due to the hard work of DCV DRIFTMASTER.

    USACE conduct night-time salvage operation to remove Derelict Barges from Flushing Bay

    NEW YORK –On May 23, 2016, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) along with Rep. Joe Crowley, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and Flushing Bay advocates attended a press conference at the World Fair Marina in Queens, N.Y., to announce the completion of work to remove two abandoned barges from Flushing Bay.
  • Aging and Family Services of Mineral County hosted the 5th Annual "Conquer the Dam" 5K fundraising run/walk at Jennings Randolph Lake Project, May 10, 2016. A record-setting 154 people participated in the event. All proceeds go to Meals on Wheels of Mineral County, a non-profit organization that provides the elderly and individuals with diminished mobility nutritious meals, safety checks, and friendly visits.

    ‘Conquer the Dam’ 5K at Jennings Randolph Lake sets record, raises funds for local seniors

    Aging and Family Services of Mineral County hosted the 5th annual ‘Conquer the Dam’ 5K run-walk at Jennings Randolph Lake in Elk Garden, West Virginia, May 10, 2016. One hundred fifty-four runners and walkers registered to cross over the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ dam and spillway, setting a new participation record for the annual event.

    NEW YORK—Inclement weather didn’t keep students from over a dozen high schools in Elizabeth, N.J. from celebrating the cities’ Environmental Day last Friday, April 30, 2016. Each year students from their respective schools get together to show off their scientific percipience, learn more about their environment and celebrate Arbor Day and Earth Month.
