The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces the kick off of the 2014 recreation season at Jennings Randolph Lake on Tuesday, April 1 at 8 a.m., when they open the Corps’ boat launch on the West Virginia shore. The launch is located alongside Howell Run, just off West Virginia State Route 46, three miles east of Elk Garden, W.Va.

The boat launch on the Maryland shore of Jennings Randolph Lake, managed by the Maryland Park Service, will also open April 1, 2014. The launch is on Mt. Zion Road off Maryland State Route 135 near the salt shed on Backbone Mountain.

There will be no charge to launch a boat at the Corps Howell Run Boat Launch. There is a $5.00 launch fee at the Maryland Boat Launch. The 2014 Maryland Park Service Passport can be purchased for $75 for Maryland residents or $100 for out-of-state residents. The pass can be purchased at all Maryland State Parks. The pass offers free day-use entry for everyone in a vehicle (up to ten people) to Maryland’s state parks and Cedarville State Forest; unlimited boat launching at ALL State Park facilities by displaying this pass on your dashboard; and a 10 percent discount on state-operated concession items and boat rentals. For parks with honor box systems, the pass covers entry service charges.

Both the Corps annual pass and the Maryland Park Service Passport are valid at either boat launch on Jennings Randolph Lake.
