CONCORD, Mass. Construction of beach repair and restoration at Woodmont Beach in Milford, Conn., will be completed under the terms of a $2,071,503.50 contract recently awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District.

Work will be accomplished by MZM Construction Company, Inc., of Newark, N.J. Construction is scheduled to start on or about March 24, 2014 and take about two months to complete. The contract was awarded on Feb. 27, 2014.

Woodmont Beach is located along the northern shore of Long Island Sound, about 5 miles southwest of New Haven, in the borough of Woodmont in Milford, Conn. The original authorized project for Woodmont Beach was completed in 1959. A portion of the original project was modified in January 1994, under the authority contained in Section 103 of the 1962 River and Harbor Act. The sandfill portion of the project involved the direct placement of sand fill along 1,500 feet of beach between Clinton and Bonsilene Streets to form a 50-foot wide berm at elevation 11.0 feet MLW.

“The beach repair and restoration work involves placement of sand fill at Woodmont Beach in order to restore the project to full profile dimensions,” said Project Manager Robert Russo, of the Corps’ New England District, Engineering and Planning Division in Concord, Mass. The sand will be purchased from a local supplier, trucked to the site and spread on the beach using earth moving equipment.
