The incoming French detachment is assembled in front of one of their Mirage 2000-5 fighters during a ceremony where they took over the lead from the outgoing Belgian detachment for the portion of NATO’s collective Air Policing mission in the Baltics based out of Amari Air Base in Estonia March 31, 2022. NATO’s collective Air Policing mission in the Baltics is operated primarily out of Amari Air Base and Šiauliai Air Base in Lithuania and benefit from various military construction projects and base improvements managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District through the European Deterrence Initiative over the past several years.
