Community celebrates 75 years of Indian Rock Dam reducing flood risks
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, Commander Col. Ed Chamberlayne discusses the flood risk management benefits that Indian Rock Dam in Pennsylvania has provided to York and other downstream communities over the years at a ceremony in front of the dam’s gatehouse commemorating its 75th anniversary Saturday October 28, 2017. It’s estimated that the dam has prevented more than $55 million in damages to downstream communities since being completed in 1942, though the number is likely higher since that primarily takes into account the most extreme high water events.
